Country Music Racks Up Teen Choice Award Nominations

Teen Choice Awards 2019

As country music fans continue to grow across the nation, award shows are starting to recognize some of the top talent in the country music industry. Just yesterday, the Teen Choice Award nominations were announced.

Lil Nas X, country music’s most controversial new artist, singer of “Old Town Road,” leads the pack, alongside, rapper, Post Malone with five nominations. He receives nods in the following categories: Choice Male Artist, Choice Song: Male Artist and Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song for “Old Town Road,” as well as, Choice Breakout Artist and Choice Collaboration for the “Old Town Road” remix with Billy Ray Cyrus. The latter category featured two country artists collaborations last year, including “Meant to Be” by Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha, and Maren Morris’ song “The Middle” with Zedd and Grey.

Country singer-songwriter turned Pop megastar, Taylor Swift received three nominations, for Choice Female Artist, Choice Pop Song, Choice Song: Female Artist, both of which for her collaborative effort with Panic At the Disco’s Brendon Urie on “ME!”.

As far as straight country categories go, many of our favorite artists are nominated for Choice Country Song and Choice Country Artist. Three powerful women in country music are nominated for the former, including Kelsea Ballerini for “Miss Me More,” and Grammy Award winners, Maren Morris for “Girl,”  Kacey Musgraves for “Rainbow.” Both Ballerini and Musgraves also received nods in the Choice Country Artist category.

Other nominees for Choice Country Song include Kane Brown’s “Good as You,” Thomas Rhett’s “Look What God Gave Her,” and first time nominees, Dan + Shay for “Speechless.” All three artists are also nominated for Choice Country Artist, alongside Brett Young.

It will be interesting to see, which hardworking country artists have made the best impression on young people this year. Tune in to watch the live broadcast on August 11th at 8 pm. on Fox, and cast your votes here for your favorites.
