The Beginning:

Today’s spotlight shines on an artist that expresses his unique gifts through music. Singer-songwriter, Tyler Halverson is the real deal. While reflecting on his childhood and where he is now, Halverson shared with us how important music has been all along and what fans can expect moving forward.

“I grew up in South Dakota in a small-town there, kind of grew up playing in church and different little festivals,” he began. “The radio was on a heck of a lot more than the TV was which I’ve very grateful and thankful for.” Halverson recalls growing his love of music thanks to his parents love of music and love for concerts.

During car rides with the radio on, the singer shares listening to 80s and 90s country, as well as, 2000s hip-hop with his parents. “I didn’t really have control over what was playing on the radio, it was whatever my mom or dad were feeling. […] It was all over the damn place [in the best way].”

Specifically, Halverson recalls garnering a liking for artists like George Strait and Garth Brooks from his dad. “My dad was a big fan of that, and then my first country concert was a Montgomery Gentry show and I think that that was a little moment of I think I might want to try this one day. That was a big influence on the songwriting too.” He later added, “Music was always associated with whatever we were doing.”

The Turning Point:

Upon graduating high school, Halverson attended South Dakota State University for two years. “I’d be playing bar gigs and whatnot in the summertime in between school, and I think that’s what kept drawing me back to music more and more.” It is also what convinced him to finally make the move to Nashville.

“I don’t know if I ever really had a moment of [I’m going to do music for a living.] It was a lot of moments of ‘I’m in way too deep to do anything else.’ But as a child, I always loved going to shows,” he shared. Adding, “I moved to Nashville when I was 20 and I’ve been in and out of Nashville for the last 8 years, just playing a lot in Tennessee and Texas, and back and forth.”

While attending Belmont University in Nashville, Halverson cultivated a greater love for music and fine-tuned his craft, especially in songwriting. “The songwriting started getting more serious and started to weave its way in when I moved to Nashville, and I started to go to Belmont University. I got in on their songwriting program and then switched that to music business and kind of just learned and started writing around town.”

Belmont and his Nashville community helped him to develop into the artist he is now and find the people that are in his corner. “This last year, hopping on with Atlantic Records has really helped a lot, and getting some publishing and management, and just good people in my corner in Nashville has really helped a lot this last year or two.”

Today:

Currently, Halverson is making a name for himself in the country music landscape, which includes putting out music. According to the singer, the songs he has out now are special ones. “The whole first batch of songs we have were written a couple of years back. It’s been an interesting collection of digging up what we were and weren’t putting out.

Most recently, the singer-songwriter shared his newest song “Run Wild.” The track features all the elements of Halverson’s one-of-a-kind talent. “The song kind of snuck up on us,” he shared. “We decided to do it performance style with just acoustic and a harmonica, I really wanted to show that because that’s how I was playing live a lot. It’s really only been a year or two that I’ve been playing with a band.”

For Halverson, “Run Wild” truly gets to show him in all his glory. “That song was a little ‘show off song.’ It’s me in a one take performance, a one take deal, and a solo write all in one.” Adding later, “it was just a good display and representative of what I do and what I like.”

Moving ahead into the rest of the year, fans can expect more new music coming down the pipeline in the fall. Halverson is currently on the road, playing shows, and recording new music for a record as we speak. Checkout shows in your area here. “We’re just trying to build it one gig at a time, one show at at time.”

Hailey Whitters: ‘I’m In Love’ EP Review

Hailey Whitters shares brand new EP, I’m In Love, out now, July 28th on all streaming platforms.  Listen to the new EP now.

Hailey Whitters announced her new EP and subsequently released the title track “I’m In Love” and opening “Tie’r Down” this month. These two are sunny and airy, like a cup of sweet tea on a summer day. The rest of the EP follows this, but as usual, Whitters sets the songwriting bar high.

No amount of pedal steel and banjo are spared, and every song sounds like Hailey. Even if one were to compare it to Shania Twain or Trisha Yearwood or even Keith Whitley – she truly has her own unique sonic universe.

“Countryside Chick” is dreamy and lovely. There’s a great recall from Whitters’ junior album Raised; the final track, “In A Field Somewhere”, is playfully mentioned in the very first verse here. “Countryside Chick” is like the title track of Raised’s older sister.  “I’m a little more hold on tight // Rest of your life not rest of your night.”

Whitters also knows how to pick great songs that sound like they were written by her. That’s a talent on its own. “I’m In Love” and “Mellencamp” were both written by the legendary (and Whitters’ labelhead) Nicolle Galyon. The latter is that kind of classic country name drop song, and could easily be written off as being overdone. Yet, it is clever and surprisingly feels like a realistic snapshot of Whitters’ own life and relationship. Sonically, the song is irresistible. It’s wistful and exciting all at the same time.“Bad Love” is familiarly Whitters lyrically and melodically. She is always great at turning the simplest of phrases on their heads and finding double entendres.

It’s impressive to see Whitters evolve into her own while remaining consistently authentic. She truly is a one of a kind artist.

I’m In Love EP Track List:

  1. Tie’r Down (Hailey Whitters, Rodney Clawson, Chris La Corte)
  2. Countryside Chick (Hailey Whitters, Matt Roy, Brett Tyler)
  3. I’m In Love (Cameron Bedell, Nicolle Galyon, Lee Thomas Miller)
  4. Mellencamp (Nicolle Galyon, Mark Holman, Jordan Minton)
  5. Bad Love (Hailey Whitters, Hillary Lindsey, Jimmy Robbins)
  6. Everything She Ain’t (Hailey Whitters, Bryan Simpson, Ryan Tyndell)

Elvie Shane Shares Brand New Song “Jonesin'”

Elvie Shane shares brand new song “Jonesin'” out now, July 28th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new track below.

A year and a half after his debut album, Backslider, Elvie Shane is back with more original music. He recently released his new song, “Forgotten Man” and “Baptized.” Now the singer-songwriter is following up the release with his new song, “Jonesin’.”

In a recent press release, Shane shared, “”Jonesin'” is all about our vices and failures in the pursuit of satisfaction and happiness. It came with the realization that you could have everything you’ve ever dreamed of and still be left feeling empty at times. That’s just life. But that void can be a beautiful thing when used as fuel. It can piss you off enough to quit the bad habits or fire you up enough to chase the seemingly unattainable.”

“Jonesin’ puts all of Shane’s talents to the forefront. The country-rock anthem feels honest, dark, and enticing. With each lyric and complementary instrumental, the singer shares a compelling story about life, habits, and everything in between. While the song is definitely relatable, Shane’s vocals are a standout on the new track.

Shane is a unique talent in country music right now. It will be exciting to see what this new era of music continues to bring for the rising star!

Mitchell Tenpenny Drops New Song “Bigger Mistakes” Out Now

Mitchell Tenpenny releases new song “Bigger Mistakes,” out now, July 28th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

Singer-songwriter, Mitchell Tenpenny is coming off an extensive, 20-track album released last September that was full of fun and relatable stories. Tenpenny creates similar vibes with “Bigger Mistakes” and it’s the perfect song to aid listeners through a break-up. The Nashville-native admits several mistakes he has made in his past, all of which carry more weight than her leaving. The singer wants to assure this woman knows that he is well over their relationship.

“I’ve had so much more to lose // Hate to say it, baby, but you’re old news // I don’t even think about you when I’ve had a few // So get over yourself // I’ve made bigger mistakes than you”

Tenpenny co-wrote “Bigger Mistakes” with some of the industry’s most accomplished writers including Chris DeStefano (“That’s My Kinda Night,” “Eyes On You”) and Josh Kerr (“Before He Cheats,” “Need You Now”). The two have over 30 numbers combined. Michael Whitwork, who has cuts all over Tenpenny’s discography, also contributed to the track. Tenpenny’s powerful vocals shine through the heavy, upbeat production.

“I’ve always loved Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’ because of the line ‘you’re so vain you probably think this song is about you.’ That line just cuts to the core,” the “Drunk Me” singer explained. “Some people like to think the world revolves around them and I wanted to write a song that was a reminder that isn’t the case. ‘Bigger Mistakes’ is about realizing that there are bigger and more important things in life than a breakup. The song is a reminder that you’ve gone through harder times and the future can be bright.”

Fans can expect this to be the first taste of a bigger project from Tenpenny. For now, they can catch him on the Highway Desperado Tour this summer/fall with Jason Aldean. For tickets, head to his website.

Hailey Whitters Releases Retro “Tie’r Down” Ahead Of New EP

Hailey Whitters releases new song, “Tie’r Down,” out now on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track here and learn more.

Hailey Whitters announced her new EP and subsequently released the title track “I’m In Love” earlier this month. “Tie’r Down”, the second song from the project is just as spirited and sonically nostalgic as Whitter fans would hope.

“Tie’r Down” could have easily been a single in the 90s – think “When” by Shania Twain meets “She’s In Love With The Boy” by Trisha Yearwood – with its banjo and pedal steel instrumental intro and foot-tapping drums. The lyrics are strong and sincere and continue a narrative that Whitters has been creating in songs like “Plain Jane” and “All The Cool Girls”.

“She’s got a mind of her own // A gold heart ’round her neck // If you don’t love her at her worst // Then you don’t get her at her best // She wants a one woman man // In a two horse town // Yeah, she might tie the knot // But you can’t tie’r down”

The I’m In Love EP, which follows her junior album Raised is out Friday, July 28th. With songs like “I’m In Love” and “Tie’r Down”, we get to take a trip down memory lane alongside Whitters.

Chris Young Shares New Song “Young Love & Saturday Nights”

Chris Young releases new song, “Young Love & Saturday Nights,” out now on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track here and learn more.

Country music mainstay, Chris Young is finally cranking out more new music. The singer-songwriter released two new songs back in January, and now we have another new anthem. Young’s new song, “Young Love & Saturday Nights” is officially out now.

“When I first heard this song, I immediately connected with the groove and the lyrics with nods to so many things I can personally relate to,” shared Young in a recent press release. “It made me think back to when I first got started playing country dive bars and it was the same kind of thing. I drove a beat-up truck to and from gigs where I played music hoping the audiences would relate… and if I’m being honest, hoping the girls would like it too. Young love and Saturday nights are things that just go together and this feels like one of those big summer songs where you just want to roll the windows down, crank up the volume, and just drive around to it.”

Written by Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure, and Josh Thompson, as well as, credits David Bowie whose legendary guitar lick is featured on the song, “Young Love & Saturday Nights” is a high-energy, country-rock anthem. Young does it justice, adding his incredible vocals to the mix. The song is all about honesty, fun, and just having a good time and not taking life so seriously. This song is primed for the stage.

Hopefully this new song marks a new era of music for Young coming soon!
