Greylan James Collaborates with Cole Swindell on New Song

Greylan James collaborates with Cole Swindell on new song “Things That I Can’t Change” out now, November 15th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

28-year-old Greylan James has already worked with many big-name artists throughout his young career, cutting songs for stars like Blake Shelton, Chris Janson, Kenny Chesney, and Jordan Davis. Today, he released his first song with a star featured on his track, “Things That I Can’t Change” with Cole Swindell.

In these beautifully written lyrics by James, alongside Jared Mullins, Rocky Block and Brock Berryhill, the singers recall several mistakes they made back in the day. While they are ashamed of them now, they both admit those poor decisions are helping shape the maturing men they are becoming. The humble, mid-tempo tune serves as an effective reminder for anyone who cringes at their past behavior to use the regret not as an anchor, but a catalyst for growth and self-improvement.

“I can’t turn back time but there’s those times that I look back // at myself in the mirror and wonder ‘who the hell is that?’ // ‘Cause I’m a shell of who I was but still ain’t who I’m gonna be // but the things I can’t change are changing me”

Swindell has been a big advocate for Greylan’s career as an artist and a songwriter. The two have a history—touring and writing songs together including Swindell’s “How Is She” and “Forever To Me.” Swindell agreed to feature on the track immediately after receiving the demo.

“I think ‘Things That I Can’t Change’ showcases what country music is all about and what I want my music to be about, telling stories that we have all lived,” Greylan expressed in a recent press release. “This song really makes me think about the things people do and the parts of their life that they aren’t insanely proud of. But we can take the lessons learned from those moments to grow from it and also accept that people can change from the other side of it. Sometimes forgiveness is hard, but it’s about seeing the best in people and giving them the opportunity to show that they can be better. It’s alright to let the things that you can’t change, change you.”

Already an ACM Award winner for his work on Davis’ “Next Thing You Know,” James has a bright future ahead of him. “Things That I Can’t Change” again showcases his keen and honest storytelling. He will perform this song and many others he has written as an opener for Ashley Cooke on her Your Place tour, stopping in NYC on February 26. For tickets, head to his website. Here is Brooks & Dunn’s Album ‘REBOOT 2’

Brooks & Dunn releases their collaborative album, REBOOT 2, out now, November 15th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new project here.

A little over five years ago, Grammy-winning country duo Brook & Dunn released their first REBOOT album, containing twelve classic songs with twelve of the most in-demand artists in Nashville at the time. Today, fans have the privilege of hearing eighteen completely reimagined tracks of their biggest hits featuring acts of all different genres, from country, to blues, to rock n’ roll.

“This project is a lot more out of bounds,” Kix Brooks said in a recent press release. “Artists were going, ‘Would it be okay if we did this?’ It was like ‘Yeah! Let’s do it.’ We dealt with rock bands and blues bands and all kinds of genres, all over the place.”

The album kicks off with the teaser single, “Play Something Country,” with superstar Lainey Wilson. Wilson’s vocals and vibe fit the song perfectly, as she is currently closing out her Country’s Cool Again tour. Standouts tracks include “Rock My World (Little Country Girl),” as the Marcus King Band adds their own flare of funk to the top 5 hit. The Cadillac Three gives “She Likes to Get Out of Town” a more southern-rock feel. Country hitmaker turned metal rocker, HARDY, helps make “Hillbilly Deluxe” sound like an Iron Maiden song. The Earls of Leicester turn “How Long Gone” into a bluegrass tune enhancing the prevalence of steel and banjo.

Six tracks appear on both REBOOTs, including “Neon Moon,” “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You,” “Brand New Man,” “Believe,” “Boot Scottin’ Boogie,” and “Hard Workin’ Man.” Megan Maroney changes the start of “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You” into a slow, piano ballad, and while Luke Combs was a great addition to the original version of “Brand New Man,” Warren Zeiders transforms the number one neo-traditional smash into a mid-tempo, 2000s rock banger. The most drastic makeover though was Halestorm’s version of “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” which became a heavy, up-beat, rock jam with an impressive guitar solo before the final verse.

Other names featured on the album not yet mentioned include Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll, Riley Green, Mitchell Tenpenny, ERNEST, Corey Kent, Hailey Whitter, Thousand Horses, The Earls of Leicester, Jake Worthington, and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram.

This project is impactful for so many reasons. First, it reinforces Brooks & Dunn’s lasting influence in the world of country music and allows fans to see their favorite songs from the past get a second life. Second, it will get younger listeners who are fans of the featured artists exposed to the music that helped shape their respective careers. Finally, it enables musical geniuses to collaborate and break boundaries to create an extremely fresh and unique sound that listeners of all genres can enjoy and reminisce to.

“The premise of the project was ‘No rules.’ For this one, we purposely loosened the screws and turned ‘em loose to do whatever they wanted,” Ronnie Dunn explained. “We actually went way off the rails, in a good way.”

Here is Kevin Smiley’s Debut EP ‘Hurts Worse’

Emerging singer-songwriter, Kevin Smiley is ready to take the the music world by storm. Coming into the limelight at seemingly the perfect time, Smiley is an artist that transcends genres with his production, while keeping with the country story-telling that the genre is arguably the best at. Today, the singer-songwriter shares his debut EP with the world. Hurts Worse, featuring eight songs is officially out now.

According to Smiley in a recent interview with Country Swag, the project was purposely crafted to be relatable and introspective. “What I  really wanted to do with this project is kind of make it this streamlined story. Songs 1-7 is really just one story, different sections of it I guess you can say, starting with “Heart to Break” as a song, which is the beginning of the fall of the relationship. […] Then all the way down to “Hurts Worse,” the person completely left. At the same time, all of these songs, I really wanted to have that emotion of heartbreak in there that a lot of people can see themselves in even if it’s not a relationship. It might be friends breaking-up or siblings going their separate ways or becoming further from your parents. You can kind of see different things in these songs.”

Listen to Smiley’s brand new, debut EP Hurts Worse ASAP! It’s time to jump on the Kevin Smiley bandwagon.

Here is Ella Langley’s Deluxe Album ‘still hungover’

Ella Langley releases the deluxe version of her debut album, still hungover, out now, November 1st on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new project here.

Riding high on the success of her debut album, hungover, Ella Langley has added a few new tracks, releasing a deluxe edition, out now. On still hungover, the country chanteuse adds four new songs, each allowing the singer-songwriter to further solidify herself as one of the genre’s most exciting new stars.

Like on the standard edition, each of the additional tracks were co-written by Langley, alongside Nashville heavyweights like Natalie Hemby, Jordan Schmidt, and Jonny Clawson. Heartache continues to be a prevalent theme on the new tracks,  weaving its way through each impassioned and vulnerable note.

With her unique tone and uncanny vulnerability, Ella Langley has been routinely labeled as one to watch in country music. With the release of her debut full-length album, hungover, out now, she proves why.

Included here are the previously released “Weren’t for the Wind,” which marks Langley’s biggest solo debut to date, and the breezy “Made It Out of Mexico.” While “Wind” is a Fleetwood Mac-esque smoky earworm, “Mexico” is a lush ode to tropical love. Over stunning acoustic guitars, she leaves her heart in Mexico after a romantic vacation tryst.

“I’m still swimmin’ in your rum drunk eyes // Kissing you intoxicated I’m still seeing through a sunburnt sky // Not a song went by we wasted // Couldn’t get enough of each other’s touch // Had me at the first hello // Still got that ticket from the plane that flew me home // But I never made it out of Mexico// I never made it out of Mexico”

Likewise, “20-20” and “Girl You’re Taking Home” are both about ill-fated loves. On “20-20,” she’s dealing with the deception that came from an ex, realizing the mistakes she’s made and that hindsight is always different. “Can’t even tell you what’s hurtin’ worse,” She muses. “The fact that I fooled myself or you made a fool of me.”

Finally, “Girl You’re Taking Home” is truly a stunning, slow burning ballad about being the other woman. Here, she wonders why she’s only good enough for a sometime lover, instead of the girl he takes home.

“If i was good enough to be your last call // Why is she the one you call your mama about // After seein’ all the b.s. I saw // Why is she the one who sees your best side now // If i’m first thing on your mind // The second she lets go // Then why ain’t i the girl you’re taking home.”

For Ella Langley, the new songs on her deluxe album only deepen the story of the heartbreak and heartache that pervaded hungover, in a way that still leaves the listener wanting more.
