“Just Another Thing” Maren Morris Does Well, Opening for Niall Horan

Maren Morris

Grammy award-winning artist Maren Morris put on a show to remember at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Amphitheater last night, opening for pop singer-songwriter and former member of One Direction, Niall Horan. The two kicked off The Flicker World Tour earlier this year in Australia followed by stops in South America, finally making their way to the United States in July.

Morris originally collaborated with Horan on his debut solo album Flicker, for their duet “Seeing Blind” which they performed together for the first time at the 51st Annual CMA Awards last Fall. The lights came on and Morris entered the stage greeting the crowd with enthusiasm, beginning her set with a brand new unreleased song titled “The Feels.” She then made her way into “Just Another Thing” off of her gold-certified album HERO. Morris’ current single to country radio “Rich” was up next which is currently climbing the charts and on the verge of entering the top 10.

“Earlier this year, I got my first ever number one. I didn’t ever think it was gonna be this song because I was going through something tough at the time, so if you’re going through something heavy, this one’s for you,” Morris shared with the crowd while introducing “I Could Use a Love Song.”

Morris continued to perform three more songs from HERO ahead of checking in on the crowd. “Let’s pick it up on this one,” she said before playing her second single “80s Mercedes.” Morris prefaced “My Church” by sharing, “I knew the day I wrote this song that it was a really momentous, special thing to me and I didn’t care if anyone else heard it. I just knew that it was good for my soul to get it out on pen and paper. I’m glad that people heard it though and responded positively to it, but this is always gonna be one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been a part of as a human being.”

Forty-five minutes later, it was time for Morris to play her last song of the night. Before playing the platinum-selling single she is featured on with producer Zedd, she thanked the crowd, “Thank you so much for spending time with us. This is our last song and this song has changed my life forever this year, so I wanna hear your voices on it, okay New York?” “The Middle” recently broke the record for most weeks at number one on the dance charts.

Later that night, Horan brought Morris back out to play their duet “Seeing Blind” by introducing her as “The queen herself.”  The Flicker World Tour will come to an end on September 23rd in West Palm Beach, FL.

For every artist, playing in a city such as the Big Apple brings its own charm and unique feelings whether they are playing a small showcase at Rockwood Music Hall downtown or in the case of LANco, Brothers Osborne and Dierks Bentley on Saturday night, their very first sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. The Mountain High Tour made its second trip to the metro area on Saturday night, the first being back in May where we attended the show at PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey during the opening weekend.

Back in June during his album release week, Bentley told fans at an intimate event “We’re playing the biggest honky-tonk in the world, MSG, that is right at the top of my bucket list, bigger than any dream I could ever dream.” His dream came true, selling out the arena and giving the venue one hell of a show.

Earlier today when we posted this incredible photo on Instagram, fans told us their favorite parts of the show. @acolaluca1108 commented “Brothers Osborne playing “Ain’t My Fault” was fantastic especially when the whole crowd sang along” while @kooocheee said “Best concert I went to this summer! Danced the whole time! “Burning Man” was amazing”.

Some other highlights that fans commented including @gdow68 mentioned “Hot Country Knights was hilarious!!! Whole show was just amazing!!” and @rachel.elena said “The whole show was amazing! You could tell how huge playing the Garden was for all of the acts!”

The biggest fan favorite moment of the night was, however, the encore when Bentley takes the stage dressed in full pilot gear to end the night with his smash hit “Drunk on a Plane”.  @cassie736 said “Amazing show!! I loved “Drunk On A Plane” and how he dressed up in the pilot outfit”.

At one point in the night, Bentley listed all of the smaller venues that he has played in Manhattan including Joe’s Pub, Hammerstein Ballroom, Irving Plaza and even some places in Brooklyn “…just to make sure we crossed off all of the boxes and every step on the way to the biggest honky-tonk in the entire world Madison Square Garden, when I say we, I mean we, because you guys have been there for us all along the way”

New York City fans were happy to have The Mountain High Tour make Madison Square Garden one of its stops before the tour is over later this month.  For remaining tour dates head to: https://www.dierks.com/tour

Sugarland’s ‘Still the Same Tour’ feat. Frankie Ballard & Lindsay Ell

Sugarland Still the Same Tour

New York and New Jersey fans alike headed to the Prudential Center on Saturday night to witness the captivating musical duo Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush of Sugarland perform their second to last show on the ‘Still the Same Tour,’ accompanied by openers, Lindsay Ell and Frankie Ballard.

Sugarland Still the Same Tour

Powerhouse, Lindsay Ell took the stage first, sharing with the crowd that this will be her last performance on the tour. She entertained fans with songs like “Waiting on You” and “Champagne”. The singer ended her set with her top 20 single, “Criminal,” co-written by Bush, just after expressing her gratitude to the fans. “Thank you, everyone and country radio for changing my life with this song. This is”Criminal” y’all!”

After a short intermission, Frankie Ballard and his Wildcat Band energetically took the stage. Pumping up the crowd throughout the entire performance, Ballard’s set was the perfect combination of his smash hits, cover songs, and engaging moments with the crowd. Singing his hits, “Helluva Night,” “It All Started with a Beer,” “Sunshine and Whiskey,” and “Young & Crazy,” the singer’s funky style and electric demeanor was evident.

Sugarland Still the Same Tour

One of the most charming moments with the entertainer was when he admitted to the audience that he “missed [his] spot in that verse,” laughing, while stating, “When they [singers] say ‘How’s everyone feeling out there,’ it’s just a way of covering up their tracks.” Between, Ballard’s humbleness, his image, and his artistry, fans showed their love for the performer the entire set.

The incredible night of music continued, as the stage lit up with a colorful, carnival-like backdrop, unveiling the headliners of the night, Sugarland, as they jammed to their title track “Bigger” off their recently released album. Their set featured an impressive 20 songs, including their most recent single “Babe,” and hits, “Stay,” “It Happens,” “Stuck Like You,” and “Lean It On Back,” with two more songs for the encore performance.

Sugarland Still the Same Tour

Additionally, Nettles and Bush, each took time to discuss their solo projects, that were worked on, during the duo’s 5-year hiatus. Bush sang his fun-loving single, “Trailer Hitch,” while Nettles belted her ballad “Unlove You.” The crowd was clearly loving both, as they sang, swayed, and snapped along to each performance.

Sugarland’s night was filled with highlights, such as their fun mash-up of their song “On a Roll” with Funkadelic’s “We Want The Funk” and Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” where Ell entered the stage on roller-skates, poking fun at the lyrics from “On a Roll.” The fans loved the impromptu end-of-tour prank and interaction Ell had on stage with the duo.

Sugarland Still the Same Tour

However, the night was stolen by the beautiful message that was inspired by the fan favorite song “Little Miss” from The Incredible Machine. The singers showcased a fan-made video for The Little Miss Project. The powerful message of The Little Miss Project is to start a dialogue that an individual is never truly alone. Supporting this mission, Sugarland utilized their musical platform to partner with World Vision in efforts to raise money for disadvantaged youth, even stopping to take a photo (on stage) with fans, who donated to the cause. Nettles shared “It’s a reminder that sometimes we have to slow down and save a life … It’ll be alright again.”

Sugarland truly brought their own level of talent and artistry to New Jersey, it was  an unforgettable night for fans of all ages, who were lucky to attend.

Jamey Johnson Performs at the Legendary Billy Bob’s in Texas

Jamey Johnson

There was something in the air Saturday night in Fort Worth Texas. The stockyards were filled with tourists and locals alike all lined up in front of the famous Billy Bob’s to take in the show that night.  Billy Bob is famous for being the world’s largest honkey tonk. It features a 100,000 sq foot location with live bull riding, line dancing, bars and multiple stages.

What made this night extra special was who was on the main stage…a man whose voice is unmistakable – Alabama native, Jamey Johnson. The former Marine Corp Reserve Corporal opened up the show in a black t-shirt, jeans and shades strumming his guitar to his hit “High Cost of Living” from his notable The Lonesome Song album.  He played along with his 8 piece band with one female singer who held her own next to Johnson’s unforgettable sound.

Jamey Johnson

In between songs he asked, “How you feeling Fort Worth, how many of y’all had a good day?”  As he strummed the opening chords to “Color” the whole audience erupted.  The venue filled with concert goers of all ages sang every word to the song.  Johnson even stopped playing to let the crowd finish the chorus “…should’ve seen it in color”.

Paying homage to his heroes, Johnson began to play Keith Whitley’s “I Wonder Do You Think of Me”. Johnson began to discuss the next song, a cover of Conway Twitty’s “Rainy Night in Georgia” he let out a few details that had the whole audience excited.  The first: Mr. Travis Tritt was in attendance that night. The second: Texas’ native and loved, Cody Jinks was coming on stage to sing with him. Jinks performed not one but two covers with Johnson. Closing out the show with a country favorite “Eastbound and Down” by Jerry Reed.

Johnson will be touring through December, for his tour dates head to https://www.jameyjohnson.com/

Lee Brice Hosts Charity Songwriter Round in Nashville

Lee Brice Charity

Last night in Nashville, Lee Brice held a fundraiser for Women of Country at the Analog at Hutton Hotel. It was a “Lee and the Ladies” kind of night. Brice is hosting a series of three special shows supporting charities that are important to him in partnership with SESAC. The first of the series was a benefit for the military and first responders and last night NYCountry Swag was lucky enough to attend the second event supporting Women of Country.

The country superstar had by his side Maddie & Tae, and songwriters, Liz Rose, and Victoria Shaw. Maddie & Tae played their new single “Friends Don’t”  and their hit “Girl In a Country Song” while Rose had the entire crowd jamming out to her Taylor Swift cuts “Tim McGraw” and “You Belong With Me.”  Shaw, who we saw earlier this year in NYC at Birdland played the smash hit song she wrote for Garth Brooks “The River”.

We can’t forget about Brice in the mix of the outstanding women on stage last night. He sang his beautiful ballad “Boy” and also his upcoming single, “Rumor.” A special guest he brought out was the one and only Neal McCoy. The two started jamming out together to McCoy’s track “They’re Playing Our Song.”

All of the proceeds from the tickets went to the nonprofit organization Thistle Farms. Amy Paige, DJ from the BIG 98 explained their mission is to “heal, empower, and employ so many women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction, it has changed their lives so profoundly.”  Thistle Farms has a store located in Nashville, Tennessee selling handmade natural body & home products. If you’re interested in reading more about Thistle Farms and their mission, you can click here.

Brice’s last event is set for Oct 1, 2018, remembering Route 91 on the one year anniversary of this tragedy.

Brett Eldredge and Morgan Evans Entertain Long Island

New Yorkers were once again lucky enough to have Brett Eldredge close out the summer in Long Island. Last year, only a few days apart, Eldredge opened up for Luke Bryan at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater but this time he was the headliner of the night at the BMHMC Amphitheater at Bald Hill. Opening the show was Morgan Evans, playing the venue for the first time.

Brett Eldredge Long Island

Evans began his set talking to the crowd right off the bat before going into his first song of the night “Day Drunk”. While in the middle of the song he stopped to say, “So I’m here basically to warm you guys for Brett Eldredge tonight, so come on! And I enjoy getting to do that so I want to make sure I do a real good job, are you feeling warm yet Long Island?” Evans continued with the crowd singing along, doing just what he was set out to do. The country newcomer didn’t stop there, he sang his songs “American” and “I Do” along with incorporating covers “Free Fallin’” by John Mayer, “Hey Jude” by The Beatles, “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon, “Honey, I’m Good” by Andy Grammer, and “Somebody Like You” by Keith Urban to his set.

One of the highlights of the night was when he sang his number one hit song “Kiss Somebody”. Before performing the song he said, “Thanks to MyCountry 96.1 and every other radio station in America and this is the first time I get to say this on stage but this is now the number one song on country music, this is my first single!” The crowd erupted in cheers and of course, sang along to every word. Before the song was over he explained, “This week has pretty much been one of the best weeks of my entire life, thanks to you guys for loving this song, playing this song, turning it up loud when it comes on the radio, so just for this last chorus now if you know the words for this song I don’t want you to sing them I want you to scream them at the top of your lungs, can you do that for me Long Island!?” That’s exactly what the crowd did, screaming the lyrics right back to him on stage, making the first time he performed “Kiss Somebody” after hitting number one extremely memorable to the singer.

Evans accomplished his job for the night, warming up the crowd for Brett Eldredge. He closed out his set with his new song “Young Again”. Before leaving the stage the singer mentioned that his EP came out two weeks ago and his first album will be released this fall. He thanked the crowd once again and said, “I so appreciate the support up here and feeling the love I can’t wait to come back to Long Island to play for you guys again!”

Brett Eldredge Long Island

Next up was the headliner himself, Brett Eldredge. As the band took their places, Eldredge ran out on stage, drink in hand, screaming, “LONG ISLAND! Y’all ready to get down on Thursday night or what?” He started off the night with “Something I’m Good At”, the perfect song to get the crowd fired up. As the song ended he said, “Well my name is Brett Eldredge and we’ve been looking forward to this show, this is the most beautiful night we played all summer long so we gonna break it down, you ready? Let’s Go!”.  The singer was constantly smiling and moving around, never in the same spot for too long and always trying to interact with the crowd. His set list was mixed with songs from every album giving the crowd all his hit songs along with fan favorites. Some of the songs performed were “Love Someone”, “The Reason”, “Cycles”, “Time Well Spent”, “Beat of The Music”, “Lose My Mind”, “Don’t Ya”, “Superhero”, and “Wanna Be That Song”.

Brett Eldredge Long Island

Throughout the night Eldredge talked with the crowd and even brought out a very beloved guest, his dog Edgar Boogie. Edgar took the stage to perform a trick right before his owner began the Bedhead Jams portion of the show. During his Bedhead Jams, he sang songs, “Mean To Me” and “Raymond,” his first single expressing his grandmother’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Another portion of the show saw some very lucky fans join the singer on stage. He sang his hit “Haven’t Met You Yet” to a little girl who had a sign pointing to her saying, “Brett’s Girl”. This wasn’t all for the night, Eldredge always brings fans up to the stage for a drink and this night was no exception. He brought up 3 fans, who were a part of Edgar Boogies fan club holding up giant pictures of him.

As the show was coming to an end the country superstar said, “So we’ve been traveling all over and this is our last weekend of the summer touring so I hate to see summer go, I hate to see it go but this is a hell of a place to watch it go right here, I wanna thank all of y’all for showing up the way you have!” This night was bittersweet for him, making the show one of the best he’s ever done. He continued his set in high energy with a cover everyone knows, “Gold Digger” by Kanye West and closed out his set with his hit song “Drunk on Your Love”. As the song came to an end he said, “Thank y’all so much, y’all better come back and see us some time! I wanna thank all of y’all for being so good to me!”

New Yorkers, can catch Morgan Evans on the Losing Sleep tour with Chris Young and Dan + Shay on December 7th at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum. For those willing to travel you can catch Brett Eldredge on The Long Way tour with Devin Dawson at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on October 12th.

Nash Fm 94.7 Presents Mitchell Tenpenny Stage 17

Mitchell Tenpenny Nash FM

Hours before Mitchell Tenpenny played his first ever sold out show in New York City at the Mercury Lounge, he took the stage at Nash FM 94.7 Hackensack Meridian Health Stage 17 to play an intimate acoustic set for some lucky fans. Backed by a guitarist and a background vocalist who just so happens to be his younger brother, Tenpenny was strumming along to his own acoustic guitar. Tenpenny played four songs from his self-titled debut EP, as well as a brand new song off of his upcoming full-length album, which he revealed is just about done and just has to be put through the proper steps before it can be released.

Introducing his first song, Tenpenny gave a backstory on how this song came to be and that he wrote this song with fellow singer/songwriter Devin Dawson. “I remember we were just kinda talking about that first car or truck you get where it might be a piece of junk but you still think you’re king of the world and you get to drive, get away from mom and dad, get in a little trouble and so we wrote a song about that and it’s called “Truck I Drove In High School.”

“Mixed Drinks” was up next on his setlist and Tenpenny told the audience he had written this song with Walker McGuire member, Jordan Walker when they were fresh out of a writing session in Nashville and decided to go to a bar called Losers to kill some time while traffic dispersed. “We saw this girl sitting in the side by herself and she kept looking at her cell phone and she’d put it down and rip a shot of vodka and I could tell she was dealing with heartbreak, she was dealing with something and we wanted to write a song about that.” The very next day, they went into the writer’s room and this song was written.

Tenpenny then decided to give the audience a little taste of what’s coming on his full-length album by playing a brand new song called “Telling All My Secrets.” This song was written with his buddy Dallas Wilson, conveying the message that guys will always find a girl who finally makes them open up. He said, “Guys try to play tough all the time but we know who runs the world and the house, especially. It’s about that one girl where you can finally just let loose.”

Mitchell Tenpenny Nash FM

Nash FM 94.7’s DJ, Katie Neal, chatted with Tenpenny about the reason he got into songwriting in the first place. The singer-songwriter shared the story of his grandmother being the president of Sony publishing for thirty years. Growing up and seeing his grandmother work in that side of the business, made him fall in love with it. His grandmother even introduced him to a few songwriters when he was just a kid. Sharing a sweet memory with the audience: “I remember her introducing me to Bobby Braddock and Carly Putnam, who wrote “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” as a kid and saying ‘these are the guys that wrote that song’ and I just thought that was the coolest thing in the world. I remember after that day, I just wanted to be a songwriter.” He gives all of the credit getting to where he is today to his grandmother, she filled him with the knowledge he needed to succeed in each step, teaching him to learn how to play all of his own instruments and recording his own demos before anybody else in the industry was doing that.

Before playing his last two songs, Neal has artists leave a message to their future selves when they predict the artists will play the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden as a bit called Garden Goals. Tenpenny’s message to himself was “Mitchell, don’t mess up, don’t fall down or off the stage and have fun man, enjoy it.”
“Alcohol You Later” was up next and so he told the backstory of this song as well. He was sitting in a bar in Nashville when a guy with a very country accent said “I’ll call you later” to his buddy and he thought it sounded like alcohol you later. “I wrote it down really quick and went into the room the next day and we ended up writing this song.”

Before ending his set, Tenpenny took a moment to thank his fans for showing up and supporting him and his music, “Getting to hear your song and people sing it back all over the country has been the most humbling experience in the world, such a thing that I am so grateful for.”  Ending the show with his first ever single to county radio, “Drunk Me,” Tenpenny shared, “I wrote this song about a heartbreak. I wanted to put a different twist on it, why someone might not have to stop drinking forever, but just for a little bit to stand a chance of getting over somebody, where every time you pick up that bottle, all you do is make another mistake.” The single is currently about to enter the top 20 on the country radio charts.

Mitchell Tenpenny Sold Out NYC Show at Mercury Lounge

Mitchell Tenpenny Mercury Lounge

As his debut single “Drunk Me” heads into the top 20 on the charts, Mitchell Tenpenny traveled to New York City to perform at Nash FM 94.7 as well as at his very first headlining New York City show at Mercury Lounge, which just happened to sell out completely.  New York Country Swag was there to experience something really magical happening for the rising artist.

His full band took the stage and right from the get-go played “Truck I Drove in High School” which is one of the featured songs on his debut EP.  The precedent was set at that moment, if the song was released, the audience knew every word and sang along.  He played all five songs from the EP as well as some classic country covers, Blake Shelton’s “Ole Red” and mashed his single “Mixed Drinks” with Marc Cohn’s “Walking In Memphis”.  He also told the audience he wanted to play his favorite Billy Currington song, “Good Directions” which the sold-out venue loved.

He revealed three brand new songs that he is recording for his debut full-length album including “That’s How She Goes”, “Telling All My Secrets”, and “Goner”.  He ended his set by singing three fan favorites, “Alcohol You Later”, “Drunk Me” and “Bitches”. He stopped to acknowledge that his single is currently climbing the charts “That’s a dream come true seriously…cheers everybody…thank you so much for coming tonight my name’s Mitchell Tenpenny and I really appreciate it”

Before his final song, he explained a little disclaimer, “I don’t mean to offend anybody but if I do, I don’t give a shit… this song isn’t about calling girls bitches or guys bitches…it’s about calling bitches, bitches”.  The audience laughed and then sang every word back to the singer-songwriter who was clearly humbled.  Head to our Instagram for exclusive videos from his show and check out our live Swag Session with Tenpenny from December 2017, before he was signed to his record deal with Sony and before he was played on the radio.

Old Dominion Takes Over The Frye Company in SoHo

Old Dominion The Frye Company

Academy of Country Music Vocal Group of the Year, Old Dominion, shut down Frye’s SoHo store in downtown New York City on Tuesday night. The group played an hour-long acoustic set for some fans who were lucky enough to win their way in. This was part of the company’s Fryedays event, a live music program that features intimate performances from established and emerging artists. This was the company’s first ever Fryeday in New York City, previous locations included Las Vegas, where Brothers Osborne played in April, as well as Nashville, where artists such as Langhorne Slim, Rayland Baxter, and A Thousand Horses performed.

The Frye Company is an American leather boot, shoe and bag company and the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Fryedays was created to speak to the brand’s deep-rooted history of connecting quality craftsmanship and music.

The band entered the stage waving to the crowd as frontman Matthew Ramsey said, “Hey guys, let’s play a song,” going straight into the show with “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” from their sophomore album, Happy Endings. The guys were sporting their new Frye leather boots on stage which they received as a gift from the company before the show. Lead singer, Ramsey, asked the crowd, “Do you guys wanna hear anything in particular?” Without hesitation, audience members yelled out “Say You Do”, which was written by Ramsey and the band’s keyboard and guitar player, Trevor Rosen, for multi-platinum singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley. The frontman was shocked to hear that particular song as he continued to explain, “We don’t play this one that much because it’s a song that we wrote for Dierks Bentley so he usually plays it” then jokingly, began to introduce Bentley which made the crowd burst into laughter before playing the requested song. The band continued to play ten more songs, their current single “Hotel Key,” and other major hits including “Break Up with Him,” and “Snapback,” as well as a brand new song, called “Make It Sweet.”

After each song, the band paused to ask if the audience had any more song requests and of course, they did. Two songs from their debut album Meat and Candy, “Wrong Turns” and “Crazy Beautiful Sexy” were requested and played as well as three others from Happy Endings, “Not Everything’s About You,” “Be with Me” and “New York at Night.”

The band continuously cracked jokes with each other and the crowd all night which gave the show a special, intimate feel. “Thank you guys for showing up here tonight, one more song and we’re out,” Ramsey said before playing their last song, “Snapback.”

Record Breaking Crowds Withstand the Storm for Kenny Chesney

Trip Around the Sun Tour Kenny Chesney

This past weekend, fans from New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut packed up their buses, trucks, and coolers to head to MetLife Stadium.  Each year, Kenny Chesney brings his star-studded line up to the home of the New York Giants and the New York Jets and year after year “Kenny Day” turns out to undoubtedly be one of the best concerts of the summer.  This year was no different. New York Country Swag gathered 130 friends and followers on two buses and made it to the parking lots early. We played cornhole, drank beers and lived the brand’s lifestyle for the entire afternoon, all while listening to our favorite country songs.

When it came time to head into the stadium, fans flocked to the security lines to catch Brandon Lay, the opening act on the tour.  Lay entertained by playing his latest singles “Speakers, Bleachers and Preachers” and “Yada, Yada Yada”. Just as Lay’s set was coming to a close, dark clouds rolled in and MetLife took the necessary precautions to protect all of the concertgoers by postponing the show until the severe weather had passed.  The heavy rain and thunder did not dampen the spirits of the crowd who huddled together in the concourse.  After about 45 minutes, the thunderstorm was over and fans headed back to their places in the crowd, patiently waiting for Old Dominion to take the stage.

Trip Around the Sun Tour Kenny Chesney

For a brief moment, as the band took the stage playing their biggest hits, the clouds gave way to an incredible sunset. Kicking off their set with their second no. 1 single, “Song for Another Time”, then keeping it old school with “Wrong Turns” they relished in the fact that the entire stadium was now filled to catch their set. “Since the last time we were here, our lives have changed dramatically,” lead singer Matt Ramsey stated referring to releasing their sophomore album and adding even more number one songs to their repertoire since opening for Kenny Chesney on his 2016 Spread the Love Tour.  The rain didn’t hold off long, but the band didn’t miss a beat, appropriately singing “New York at Night” which features Brad Tursi on vocals and their current single “Hotel Key”.  They closed their set with one of the nights first sing-a-longs to “Snapback”.

Trip Around the Sun Tour Kenny Chesney

Next to the stage was an artist who is sure to be a future Entertainer-of-the-Year, Thomas Rhett.  Although the now superstar has headlined his own tour for the past few years, it has never made its way up to the NY/NJ area, making it the first time in a while that Rhett has performed a full show in the New York area. Rhett’s absolute electric personality and onstage presence was felt buzzing throughout the entire stadium as he played his smash hits from all three of his studio albums including  “It Goes Like This”, “Craving You” and “Vacation”.

“Thank you for being kind people, I just look at your faces and you all seem like kind people out here tonight, thank you so much,” Rhett said during “Die a Happy Man” “I’m not going to get sappy, but this is my last show on the Kenny Chesney tour and I feel like I’ve learned more in 17 shows, than I’ve learned in my whole eight years of touring, I just want to say thank you so much to Kenny Chesney wherever he is standing right now.”  His genuine gratitude towards the fans and the mega country star that brought him along for this run on the Trip Around the Sun Tour was apparent and the audience ate it up. Asking the 50,000 plus fans to sing the chorus back to him was a highlight of the night, as he closed out the song by singing “…if this the last show that I ever get to play in my whole life I swear then I could die a happy man.”  Check out our exclusive video of the emotional moment here.

Trip Around the Sun Tour Kenny Chesney

Over an hour later than expected due to the storm, the man of the night took the stage dressed in his signature jeans, boots and cowboy hat. In total, 58,642 fans were on their feet, breaking his own MetLife stadium record and beating out giant acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and Taylor Swift if you add up the concert attendances in the same number of appearances. His set was filled with the usual Chesney hits from his giant career including “Beer in Mexico”, “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem” and “American Kids”.  Throughout the night, the entire stadium was lit up, allowing Chesney to see the at-capacity crowd singing and dancing along. Drenched in sweat, the singer ran up and down the catwalk giving all he had for the fans who had withstood rain and thunderstorms to see him perform.

“Coming back year after year I’ve learned a lot about this audience,” he stated in between songs. “Everybody here has a lot in common, we work hard, we play hard, we learn hard and we really love music.”  Not only is he one of the industry’s best entertainers, but he always brings the most amazing country acts on tour with him and makes sure they get the recognition that they deserve.  Old Dominion joined him on stage once again to perform “Save it For a Rainy Day” which Brad Tursi and Matthew Ramsey co-wrote, Thomas Rhett took the stage for “When the Sun Goes Down” and surprise guest David Lee Murphy showed up to sing their current single “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” as well as “Dust on the Bottle”.  Closing out the night with Brandon Lay, Chesney sang one of the very first songs he ever released “She Thinks My Tractors Sexy”.

It was certainly a night to remember for all who attended, further proving that waiting all summer long for Kenny Chesney to come to town is worth it every single year.
