Today, 16 years after the tragic events that took place on September 11th, 2001, Americans all over the nation reflect on where they were when they heard the news. Grammy award winning country singer Jennifer Nettles is putting a fresh new narrative in place, releasing “King of the City”, inspired by an immigrant window washer who’s life was lost that day.
“That day in September / I’ll always remember / Started out just like the rest / I was floor 26 when the first plane hit / And I still feel that sound in my chest/ “It’s true I wasn’t born here / But my heart is sworn here / To hold up your dreams with my own / That day on my porch / I made it to church / And I prayed for each soul to fly home.”
The story unfolds as strings and Nettle’s voice crescendos, creating a beautiful testament to all of the fallen victims. Hear “King of the City” below and purchase the single on Amazon, Apple Music, and iTunes.
