5 Things to Expect from Priscilla Block’s Album ‘Things You Didn’t See’
We chatted with country singer-songwriter, Priscilla Block about her new album, Things You Didn’t See, out Friday, October 10th. Here are five things to expect from the upcoming project.
-
Things You Didn’t See was originally a different album with a different name.
“This record took me a lot longer than I thought it would. I was going to put out my album last year, and it was going to be called a completely different thing and it was a different vibe, and long story short, I felt like I needed to pump the brakes on the project, and figure out what it is that I’m wanting to say on this next record.”
-
The upcoming record is one of Block’s most honest and authentic releases to date.
“It inspired me to dig in a little bit different in my life over the past couple of years, and where I’ve been. What we had kind of originally was just really fun vibes, something people would expect, but this project I wanted to challenge myself to dive in deeper and show a side of me that maybe people haven’t seen.”
-
Block named the album, Things You Didn’t See because the song embodied the vulnerability and different sides of her personality that she wanted fans to see.
“That’s what inspired “Things You Didn’t See” to be the title track, which is so ironic for someone like me cause I put like everything out there on social media. I feel like people know me pretty well, but there are aspects of my life that people haven’t seen. […] I knew that it was my moment to really tell my story, and anyone who hasn’t gotten it or hasn’t really understood my vibe, like I really hope when they listen through to this record, that they’ll feel like they got to know me through this record.”
-
When Block write the song, “Stranger Things,” a duet with Chase Matthew, she knew she wanted the song to be a duet and chose Matthew to be her partner on the track.
“I’ve been such a fan of Chase for so long. He’s built his own following and really has this diehard fanbase, and I feel like I have that too. There’s a lot of similarities with me and him. I’ve always been a big fan, and when I listened to this song, I knew I wanted a feature, and we had always talk about doing a song one day together. […] Chase immediately came to mind.”
-
One of the most prolific songs in her catalog, “Couldn’t Care Less” was a song that truly poured out of Block in the writing process.
“I’m good at being able to tell my own story. I was a songwriter before I was ever an artist. I love songwriting. It’s in my heart and my bones, it’s what makes my love country music even more. […] It was my easiest and my hardest to write because there was a lot of emotion. It was my story.”
