Chris Stapleton Announces New Album and Releases Title Track ‘Starting Over’

Chris Stapleton Starting Over

Let Chris Stapleton be the one to bring 2020 to meet a silver lining by surprising fans with the release of a brand new song, “Starting Over”. Stapleton is a 5x Grammy, 10x CMA and 7x ACM Award-winner and one of the best talents to walk the line in country music to this date.

Written by Stapleton and longtime friend and collaborator Mike Henderson, “Starting Over” inaugurates with a lively guitar rhythm and a hell of a lot of optimism; which the world severely aches for right now. The track preserves the singer-songwriter’s detectable austere, conventional country makings, and reawakens the offerings of Stapleton and Henderson’s late project in The SteelDrivers. It depicts the importance of having loved ones around, as his wife Morgane Stapleton adds her harmonious, elegant vocals to the track.

“And it don’t matter to me // Wherever we are is where I wanna be // And Honey, for once in our life // Let’s take our chances and roll the dice // I can be your lucky penny, you can be my four-leaf clover // Starting over”

“Starting Over” marks a new chapter for Stapleton as he announced that this release serves as the title track for his forthcoming album, which makes this the first new studio album in approximately three years. The 14-track assemblage moves through a series of motions of the simple life and the not-so-simple life and will be released on November 13th, 2020 via Mercury Records Nashville. Starting Over is produced by one of Nashville’s finest, Dave Cobb, and features some legendary musicians like Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, and Paul Franklin.

In addition, Stapleton’s “All-American Road Show” tour has been rescheduled to 2021 after the pandemic canceled its fall 2020 run. For show information and new tour dates, click here.

Sam Hunt Teases Recorded Cover of Garth Brooks’ “What She’s Doing Now”

Sam Hunt and Garth Brooks

Sam Hunt never fails to keep his fans on their toes; whether he goes silent for a bit, with everyone wondering when they’ll hear from him next, or just sliding out with a recording like this, he keeps all of us guessing.

In his latest Instagram post, Hunt shares a recorded cover of Garth Brooks’ 1991 hit, “What She’s Doing Now”. Making Brooks’ original version almost completely unrecognizable, this cover ventures into the smooth country-pop/R&B style that everyone has come to expect from Hunt’s unique style. Carrying a much stronger electronic sound, fans might forget that this was originally a country song with traditional production.

Hunt has continued to push the boundaries of the country genre as seen in his most recent album, Southside. So the question is, will the singer-songwriter release more like this or will he make a return to his original blends? For a bigger twist, Brooks could join him on the official track. Regardless of the direction, Hunt really shows that music is music, and shows a no holds barred to pushing the genre into his own unique form of country music.

Eric Church Brings the Magic with Brand New Song “Crazyland”

Eric Church Crazyland

Eric Church has been a busy man this year, despite not being able to tour or perform live in front of fans. We’ve heard “Stick That In Your Country Song,” currently climbing the charts at Country radio, as well as follow up “Bad Mother Trucker” which chronicles the rebellious swagger of a female truck driver earning respect on the road. “Crazyland” is much different though and it’s obvious at first listen. It has almost a whimsical sound to it, personifying the emotions that come with love lost.

“Let me take your hat friend, tell me what’s the matter / ’Round here folks call me the mad hatter / That’s Sad in the corner with his heart on his sleeve / Talking to Regret who’s never gonna leave / Over there playing pool is Fool and Lost / And tending bar tonight that’s All My Fault / We all just hang out and listen to Blues / Sing his songs ’cause there’s nothing else to do in… Crazyland”

Church, along with Luke Laird and Michael Henney wrote the song and in typical Eric Church fashion, it really makes you think about the lyrics. The singer-songwriter depicts sort of two different versions of himself as an artist: one you’ll hear in “Drink in My Hand” or “Smoke a Little Smoke” and the other you’ll hear in songs similar to “Crazyland” or “Some of It.” It’s almost the rock ‘n roll, no cares in the world guy versus the deep-thinking, insightful family man. Not many artists can pull this off so well and use his words and lyrics to really make you stop and think.

In a recent interview with radio host, Bobby Bones, the nine-time GRAMMY nominee told Bones that he actually dreamed the song’s chorus and wrote the verses to accompany it upon waking up. If you’re a fan of Church and his songwriting skills, there’s more good news, he also added that there will be more new music coming.

“I think this is a great first stick point to what is going to be a lot of music and is going to be a very long process,” Church told Bones. “It’s the most special project of my career and we’re gonna treat it that way. So I think this is something we’re gonna have a lot of fun with over the next period of time, whenever we get to go back and be somewhat normal.”

Home Free Releases Video & Cover of Surfaces’ “Sunday Best”

Home Free Sunday best

All vocals country group, Home Free have made a career releasing a cappella music, comprised of both original tracks and cover songs. Their last record Dive Bar Saints was a hit with fans, and now the five men are back with a cover of  the popular song, “Sunday Best.”

Originally by a duo named Surfaces, the song is a feel-good anthem and a social media favorite. The song is all about bringing joy and positivity to our day. Hearing the guys of Home Free sing this version of the song brings even more joy and a sense of silliness to the already uplifting jam.

“Hey feeling good, like I should / Went and took a walk around the neighborhood /
Feeling blessed, never stressed / Got that sunshine on my Sunday best”

Their new music video for the track is clearly quarantine at its finest. It shows off the men being goofballs around their perspective houses. In a time where it’s difficult to keep in good spirits, Home Free gives us something to distract ourselves with. We appreciate their sense of humor, talent, and humbleness during these times.

Carrie Underwood Previews “Let There Be Peace” from Holiday Album

In a time of protests, riots and social injustice, country superstar and ACM Entertainer of the Year nominee, Carrie Underwood voices her one wish in the newly released, uplifting anthem, “Let There Be Peace”. The beautiful track is the first taste of her upcoming Christmas album, My Gift, dropping next month on September 25th.

Although Underwood mentions Christmas in the second verse, the references to prayer, Jesus, and the backing gospel choir in the song make it more closely resemble a Christian song at its core. Underwood states that if she had one wish this Christmas, it wouldn’t be for presents under the tree, it would be to stop the crying and fighting in every nation.

“Let there be peace / Peace to every nation / Let there be hope / For all the world to see / Let there be love and joy to all the children / Let there be peace on earth for you and me”

Underwood has put out Christmas songs in the past including “Do You Hear What I Hear?” “The First Noel,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “What Child Is This?” and “O Holy Night.” My Gift will feature eleven songs, including “Let There Be Peace,” “O Holy Night,” and nine other classic Christmas songs. John Legend will join Underwood for a rendition of “Hallelujah,” and her son, Isaiah will be featured on the fourth track, “Little Drummer Boy.”

HARDY Releases “Truck”, A New Track From His Forthcoming Album

Hardy Boyfriend

In just a few days, fans will finally be able to listen to HARDYs latest project, A ROCK in its entirety on it’s official release date, September 4, 2020. Until then, singer-songwriter and one of our favorites continues to keep fans excited by pre-releasing some tracks off the forthcoming record. Following the angsty rock song “BOOTS,” the touching song “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL,” and his first true-blue love song “BOYFRIEND,” “TRUCK” was released today to add to the excitement.

The brand new song embodies HARDYs rock-country, good-ole-boy persona. However, dont expect this song to be a simple track about one of country music’s favorite topics. As always, HARDY proves that hes a songwriter at heart, taking a simple concept and making it reflective and poignant.

“If there’s horns in the back there’s a gun in the front / If there’s dents on the side he ain’t scared of nothin’ / And if a twelve-packs’ in the passenger seat / Well, he probably worked his ass off all week”

“TRUCK” showcases a side of HARDY that he seems to be very comfortable in. His laid-back, yet passionate personality comes through in all of his music, and “TRUCK” is no different. We cannot wait to see what else the singer-songwriter has up his sleeve with his upcoming project, and we are sure that it is going to be a mix of all the things we have grown to love from his talents.

Luke Combs Teases Brand New Song “Forever After All”

Luke Combs and Nicole Hocking

Luke Combs with His Wife, Nicole, during a FB livestream (Photo via Luke Combs Facebook)

Luke Combs is a bonafide superstar. In his young career, he has broken records, had an insane amount of number one hits, and built a fanbase that is as tried and true as they come. The truth is he deserves every bit of success that is coming to him because his music speaks volumes about who he is as a singer and a songwriter. Continuing to keep fans on the edge of their seats, the singer took to TikTok to tease a brand new song coming up the pipeline called “Forever After All.”

Clearly inspired by his now wife, Nicole Hocking, Combs is giving us a love song that completes the trilogy of hit songs that have come before, including “Beautiful Crazy” and “Better Together.” The unreleased ballad reflects how love knows no bounds and will truly last forever even in death.

“They say nothing lasts forever / But they ain’t seen us together / Or the way the moonlight dances in your eyes / And  know there’ll be a moment / The good Lord calls one of us home and / One won’t have the other by their side / But heaven knows that won’t last too long / Maybe some things last forever after all”

It is possible that the new song might be one of the five new tracks to come in October, when Combs releases the deluxe version of his sophomore record renamed What You See Ain’t Always What You Get. Whatever this song makes it on the record or not, we’re sure that Combs’ fans will make sure that they get this song going viral across social media!

Russell Dickerson Collaborates with Pop Artist Clara Mae in “Alright”

Russell Dickerson and Clara Mae

When they work, collaborations in music can be one of the most exciting things. We love a good country-pop crossover like “Heartless” by Diplo featuring Morgan Wallen and “One Thing Right” by Marshmello and Kane Brown. This time, one of our favorite artists, Russell Dickerson featured his talents on pop songstress Clara Mae’s new single “Alright”.

The Swedish singer-songwriter is known for her clever phrasing and beautiful vocals, but combined with Dickerson’s signature sound and voice, this song truly takes it to another level. The singers trade verses, taking turns telling stories from unique perspectives of a broken relationship. On the chorus, they create a harmonious, yet striking vocal performance, admitting that you can still care about someone you’re no longer with.

“Just because we’re not friends / Doesn’t mean I don’t care / Are you alright, alright? / Don’t know how to just stop / Used to love you too much / Are you alright, alright / ‘Cause I’ve been losing sleep / Wondering if you’re good, so please just / Pick your phone up / Let me know and I’ll stop / Are you alright? / Just say you’re all alright”

Similar to the smash hit by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels, “If the World Was Ending,” Mae and Dickerson manage to convey the complicated concept that feelings do not go away just because a relationship is over.  Of course, the music video was creatively utilized to amplify the poignant message beautifully.

We wonder what country artists will collaborate across genres next!

NYCS First Impression: Ryan Griffin ‘Name On It’

Ryan Griffin Name On It

In September 2019, the “Woulda Left Me Too” singer released the first single “Right Here Right Now” for this project. Looking back, Ryan Griffin’s new EP Name On It was a year in the making after releasing five out of the six tracks over almost a 12-month period. Now, just shy of the “Right Here Right Now” one-year anniversary of its release, Name On It has been molded into an entire collection of memories from the many releases. There’s just one song left on the EP that has not yet been heard titled “All Over Again”.

The first few words have a similar sentiment to Kane Brown’s touching tribute, “For My Daughter” with “I watched my brothers and my daddy / and I learned what not to do”. Though, the rest of the story that Griffin narrates takes on its own personality.  The new songs fans get to experience for the first time today, “All Over Again” is composed of a dense modernization of the pop-country sound that is familiar and popular in the genre today.

Name On It marks the first series of songs from Griffin since 2017, which was when his debut EP Sake of the Summer was released. A lot has changed for the artist since then, though the individualistic creation that is portrayed on either project remains the same. After being signed to a major record label, and Name On It is the first project following the agreement, the EP goes along with the singer-songwriter that introduced himself three years ago. With irrefutable growth, Griffin continues to be a performer who lives and entertains in a way that is true to himself.

Name On It Tracklist
1. Right Here Right Now (Ryan Griffin, Josh London, Jason Massey)
2. Name On It (Ryan Griffin, Nicolle Galyon, Mark Trussell)
3. All Over Again (Ryan Griffin, Mark Trussell, Emily Weisband)
4. Down (Ryan Griffin, Cameron Badell, Mark Trussell)
5. Going Going Gone (Ryan Griffin, Jason Duke, Benjamin Johnson)
6. One Prayer Left (Ryan Griffin, Cameron Bedell, Thomas Finchum)

Hit Songwriter Luke Laird Chronicles His Dreams in “Music Row”

Music Row Luke Laird

Two days before the world shut down and the lights in cities around the world shuttered temporarily, Luke Laird played a sold-out songwriter’s circle to New Yorkers at The Public Theatre. In a time of uncertainty and fear, he played everything from Sam Hunt’s “Hard To Forget” to Kenny Chesney’s “American Kids”. He announced that night that after almost two decades in Nashville, he was to release his debut album titled, Music Row. He then performed the title track, out today, and just as it did with me all those months ago, it’ll stick with you like a popsicle on an everlasting summer day.

The same groove and effortless breeze that Laird has brought to a song like “Pontoon” is found in “Music Row”. Laird wrote and produced it by himself, and lyrically, it details his childhood and a family trip to his dreams to make it big in Nashville. “[It’s] about the journey from Pennsylvania to Nashville, and this album is filled with songs that are super personal to me that I hope others will connect with,” he shared in a statement.

Sonically, “Music Row” combines the best of 90s country and singer-songwriter. It’s almost reminiscent of an old Duncan Sheik record; it’s carefree and all about the story. “That night I hit the Bluebird I saw Tony Arata/And just like that I knew what I wanted,” he sings on the first verse, sharing the time when he knew he wanted to be a professional writer. It’s a sweet reminder of how infinite life feels when you’re young, and how no dream is ever that far out of reach.

It’s hard to forget a night like the one where Luke Laird showcased “Music City”. With everyone on edge, eagerly listening to “Music City” and tentatively, singing in unison to “American Kids”, there was an energy in the room that felt unprecedented and unanticipated. Music is all about the memories and moments that are tied to it. No matter where I am, since March, whenever I hear a song written by Luke Laird, I am immediately transported back to that songwriter’s round and that last week before everything changed.
